Paint Shop Preserves Racetrack History

The black-and-white-striped poles around the outside of the Maddy Equine Lab are once again fit for the Sport of Kings.

The poles are 1/16-mile markers from the Tanforan Racetrack, which operated from 1899 to 1963 in San Bruno, just south of San Francisco.

The Building Maintenance Services’ Paint Shop recently refurbished these artifacts of California's horse racing history. Chase Fowler, who received the assignment, knew the importance of the poles and was excited about the task.

All members of the campus community are encouraged to immediately report any lights that are malfunctioning, and any areas that might need better lighting. Restrooms for Everyone

Signs of beskirted and trousered figures are being removed from 120 restroom doors across the Davis campus by the end of February to convert gendered or unisex restrooms to gender-inclusive restrooms.

Bring on the rain: Campus ready for El Niño

To weather the big rains and high winds of what is anticipated to be a strong El Niño, ��ϲʿ��ͼ is preparing — from removing dead tree branches to clearing sediment from drainpipes.

And the campus needs your help, too.

"We need help on campus with eyes," said Cynthia Kranc, director of maintenance services in Facilities Management. "We can't be everywhere. We rely on our campus associates to let us know where there are problems."
