By providing better information about the health of a fetus right before birth, the device could both reduce the rate of cesarean sections and improve outcomes in difficult deliveries.

An experimental vaccine against the Zika virus reduced the amount of virus in pregnant rhesus macaques and improved fetal outcomes. The work could help support development and approval of the experimental Zika DNA vaccine VRC5283, which is currently in early stage trials in humans. Lipid-based prenatal supplement improves infant health and nutrition in Bangladesh

Fortified, lipid- or fat-based nutritional supplements provided during pregnancy to women in Bangladesh reduced stunting, abnormally low weight and small head size in babies born to these women, reports a team of University of California, Davis, researchers who led the international project.

The lipid-based supplement was more effective in promoting healthy birth outcomes for infants than just iron and folic acid prenatal supplements, commonly recommended for pregnant women.
