Hundreds of freshmen will move into the newest residence hall at the University of California, Davis, this weekend as the campus welcomes thousands of new students.

Statement on Court Ruling Rejecting Temporary Halt to West Village Construction

The state court ruling on AFSCME’s request for a temporary halt to construction on the West Village housing project affirms that the Regents’ decision to move forward with the long-range development plan is sound. It reflects an understanding of the urgent need for student housing that ��ϲʿ��ͼ is addressing with the West Village project. The project will provide 3,300 new student beds, opening up potential housing for others in the community.

Student Housing Development Formally Breaks Ground

The University of California, Davis, today (Feb. 26) formally broke ground for The Green at West Village, a campus apartment project with room for up to 3,300 students.

“I’m thrilled to celebrate with our partners this major step forward in addressing the critical need for affordable student housing,” Chancellor Gary S. May said. “Today’s groundbreaking is part of an ambitious plan to provide access to more housing for our students.”

West Village Expansion to Start Construction

Construction of the West Village Expansion student housing project at the University of California, Davis, is set to begin before the winter holiday, with a formal groundbreaking ceremony to come in early 2019.

“This project is part of the significant commitment we’ve made to our students and to the community to provide on-campus housing for 100 percent of any growth in new student enrollment,” said ��ϲʿ��ͼ Chancellor Gary S. May. “I’m thrilled we can move forward in the new year.”

City of Davis, Yolo County and ��ϲʿ��ͼ Agree to Memorandum of Understanding on Partnership and Growth

The City of Davis, County of Yolo, and the University of California, Davis, have agreed to a legally binding memorandum of understanding (MOU) on a series of shared goals and commitments to improve collaboration and partnership.

��ϲʿ��ͼ Releases Environmental Review for Long Range Development Plan

The University of California, Davis has released an updated Long Range Development Plan and Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR). The DEIR assesses the potential environmental impacts of the proposed LRDP along with new housing projects and is available for public comment through 5 p.m., May 29.

��ϲʿ��ͼ Study: City Apartment Vacancy Rate Essentially Unchanged, Rental Rates Up

City of Davis apartments are full and rental rates are up since last year, according to a survey commissioned by Student Housing and Dining Services at ��ϲʿ��ͼ and released today (Jan. 22).

The blended vacancy rate — including apartments leased by the unit and by the bed — is estimated to be 0.4 percent, essentially unchanged from 0.3 percent in fall 2016.

Developer Named for ��ϲʿ��ͼ Housing Projects

��ϲʿ��ͼ has selected University Student Living of New Jersey to enter exclusive negotiations to develop two major housing projects on campus, at Orchard Park and at West Village. The selection follows a request for proposals issued in June.

As originally conceived, the proposed projects would provide more than 2,775 beds for graduate and transfer students, as well as those with families. With the developer selection completed, ��ϲʿ��ͼ and the developer will continue to evaluate affordability and density options to exceed the prior target of 2,775 beds.

Comments Invited on Scope of Long Range Development Plan EIR

The University of California, Davis, has begun the next phase of preparation of a new Long Range Development Plan, inviting public comments on the scope of the environmental impact report that will be prepared for the plan.

Russell Field Housing Dropped from LRDP

Campus planners have removed all proposed student housing from Russell Field, in the latest draft of the 2017 Long-Range Development Plan.

Assistant Vice Chancellor Bob Segar, in charge of Campus Planning and Environmental Stewardship, will provide an informational update to the Davis City Council tonight (Dec. 6) with the new proposal, which is reflected in changes made to the Campus Tomorrow website (you may need to refresh the webpage). Ultimately, the UC Board of Regents will consider the LRDP for approval.
