Food options on campus are expanding, both for quick bites to eat and for people experiencing food insecurity.

At the Coffee House, student employees have adapted to a new way of serving customers: on-campus deliveries ordered through GrubHub app. Walk-in customers also are welcome, but there is no indoor dining. Order your takeout at a register, then wait in the dining room (which has been emptied of tables and chairs) while staying at least 6 feet away from other customers.

Scrubs Café Reopens, the Silo to Close

One campus eatery, Scrubs Café, has reopened today (June 4), while another is preparing to close for lengthy renovations.

The Silo — including Spokes Grill, Crêpe Bistro, The Gunrock and Peet’s Coffee — will be closed after Friday, June 14, the last day of finals, for construction work, some of it major (new roofing, seismic upgrades), some of it less so (new doors, epoxy flooring in the kitchen). The $2.9 million project is expected to last into early 2020.

NEWS BRIEFS: Steam, Water Damage Close Scrubs Café

Scrubs Café is closed for an undetermined amount of time because of a steam leak that turned into a flood inside the building after hours the weekend of Feb. 23-24, causing extensive damage.

Steam poured into the unoccupied café for about 15 hours before being discovered the evening of Feb. 24, said Kraig Brady, director of Hospitality and Dining Services. “It basically pressure-washed it,” he said. “The steam condensed, and we had standing water in the restaurant and steam throughout the facility.”

The campus uses steam to heat buildings and water.

NEWS BRIEFS: No More Teaching With SmartSite After June

It’s really happening. The instructional use of SmartSite will end when spring term concludes in June.

“As planned, SmartSite will no longer be an active learning management system once spring quarter ends, without exceptions,” said David Levin, director of Academic Technology Services (ATS) in Information and Educational Technology.

“We want everyone to know this is a firm deadline,” he said. “About 85 percent of instructors are already using its replacement, ��ϲʿ��ͼ Canvas, and we don’t want the final 15 percent to be left behind.”

Vet Med Adds Student Services and Admin Center

The School of Veterinary Medicine will swing open the doors Wednesday (March 29) to the Veterinary Medicine Student Services and Administration Center, new home for student-service units, administrative offices and Scrubs Café.
