Campus Store Reopens, CoHo Closes for Summer

The Coffee House is shutting down for the summer as two ��ϲʿ��ͼ Stores locations reopen this week.

The Campus Store and Downtown Store are open with limited hours and increased sanitation practices, according to the the ��ϲʿ��ͼ Stores website. The locations have implemented physical distancing through the use of separate entrances and exits, limited capacity and other measures. Yolo County regulations require all staff and customers to wear face coverings while inside the stores.

Athletics ‘Fan Shop’ Coming to Campus Store

The Campus Store is ramping up its Aggie Pride with a new section dedicated to athletics gear.

The new “��ϲʿ��ͼ Fan Shop,” set to hold a grand opening celebration Nov. 13, will carry clothing, gifts and some school and office supplies — all bearing the marks of Intercollegiate Athletics and its various teams.

The merchandise will be located within the clothing section of the store, and all of it will also be available online.

NEWS BRIEFS: No More Teaching With SmartSite After June

It’s really happening. The instructional use of SmartSite will end when spring term concludes in June.

“As planned, SmartSite will no longer be an active learning management system once spring quarter ends, without exceptions,” said David Levin, director of Academic Technology Services (ATS) in Information and Educational Technology.

“We want everyone to know this is a firm deadline,” he said. “About 85 percent of instructors are already using its replacement, ��ϲʿ��ͼ Canvas, and we don’t want the final 15 percent to be left behind.”

Three dozen butterflies — symbols of new life — were recently released during a tribute to those who gave life to others.

Hosted annually by ��ϲʿ��ͼ Transplant Center and Sierra Donor Services, the ceremony recognizes the generosity of ��ϲʿ��ͼ Medical Center patients who became organ and tissue donors. Because of them and others like them, 1,200 people in the Sacramento region received lifesaving transplants last year.

NEWS BRIEFS: ‘Science Friday,’ from ��ϲʿ��ͼ, this Friday

Roughly 1,600 people attended the Science Friday radio show at the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts last weekend, and soon the whole world can hear a recording of the show.

��ϲʿ��ͼ scientists are featured in the episode titled “Life Without Water,” to be presented on Capital Public Radio (90.5 FM) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 9 to 11 p.m. this Friday (Sept. 30). Ira Flatow’s show also plays on more than 375 other National Public Radio-affiliated stations.

The UC Office of the President got an early start on 2017 open enrollment by announcing new disability insurance options and expanded eligibility for such insurance, giving employees the opportunity to have greater financial peace of mind.

Besides basic coverage, paid for by the university, eligible employees will be invited to sign up for Voluntary Short-Term Disability (benefits up to six months); Long-Term Disability (benefits after six months, up to the employee’s Social Security retirement age); or both, depending on the employee's needs and budget.

A bald eagle that was brought to the ��ϲʿ��ͼ School of Veterinary Medicine’s California Raptor Center in February after she was hit by a truck in Shasta County has been released into the wild. The eagle received treatment that included a cast on her broken wing, physical therapy and then flight training before being released near the spot where she was found. — Video by Joe Proudman/��ϲʿ��ͼ

Campus Store to Reopen in Memorial Union June 6

��ϲʿ��ͼ’ main bookstore reopens next Monday (June 6) with a new name, a new look and a bevy of new features.

The Campus Store is part of a Memorial Union renovation that began in March 2015 and is due for completion by the end of this year. The store is the first section to be finished, which means textbook sales are coming back from their temporary home in The Pavilion and the contractor can start work in the union’s east wing, which has been the temporary home for much of the rest of the store.
