Three dozen butterflies — symbols of new life — were recently released during a tribute to those who gave life to others.

Hosted annually by ��ϲʿ��ͼ Transplant Center and Sierra Donor Services, the ceremony recognizes the generosity of ��ϲʿ��ͼ Medical Center patients who became organ and tissue donors. Because of them and others like them, 1,200 people in the Sacramento region received lifesaving transplants last year.

Conservation is about more than making sure crops get the right amount of water. The Horticulture Innovation Lab traveled to Cambodia earlier this year to make sure farmers were doing the right thing after the harvest to ensure as many crops as possible made it to the market. International postharvest specialist Angelos Deltsidis was among those who observed farming techniques near the village of Ampil Peam. The lab has published a photo essay from the trip.

Sautter IT Awards for Pair of ��ϲʿ��ͼ Projects

��ϲʿ��ͼ shared a golden award and won a silver in this year’s Larry L. Sautter Awards program honoring innovation in information technology in the UC system.

• Golden award — UC TrialQuest, a clinical trials search tool for the five campuses of UC Health: Davis, Irvine, Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco.

Campus Store to Reopen in Memorial Union June 6

��ϲʿ��ͼ’ main bookstore reopens next Monday (June 6) with a new name, a new look and a bevy of new features.

The Campus Store is part of a Memorial Union renovation that began in March 2015 and is due for completion by the end of this year. The store is the first section to be finished, which means textbook sales are coming back from their temporary home in The Pavilion and the contractor can start work in the union’s east wing, which has been the temporary home for much of the rest of the store.

LAURELS: Back-to-Back Innovation Wins for ��ϲʿ��ͼ Stores

The National Association of College Stores Foundation gives one, and only one, Innovation Achievement Award every two years, and ��ϲʿ��ͼ Stores just won its second consecutive award. None of the other member schools in the U.S. or Canada has ever accomplished this.

In 2014, ��ϲʿ��ͼ Stores won for its SmartStart program, whereby staff members act as personal textbook shoppers for students and their families.

'The Force Awakens' early at ��ϲʿ��ͼ Stores

The Force is coming to ��ϲʿ��ͼ Stores, and managers think it could create more buzz than the Boonta Eve Classic podrace.

The bookstore’s Memorial Union location and the TechHub are now stocking a line of Star Wars merchandise, including apparel with ��ϲʿ��ͼ branding.
