NEWS BRIEFS: New Options for Disability Insurance in 2017

The UC Office of the President got an early start on 2017 open enrollment by announcing new disability insurance options and expanded eligibility for such insurance, giving employees the opportunity to have greater financial peace of mind.

Besides basic coverage, paid for by the university, eligible employees will be invited to sign up for Voluntary Short-Term Disability (benefits up to six months); Long-Term Disability (benefits after six months, up to the employee’s Social Security retirement age); or both, depending on the employee's needs and budget.

A vibrant show of color washes over the Mondavi Center's south wall in a show of support for the LGBTQIA community everywhere in the wake of the tragedy in Orlando. A member of the campus community suggested the rainbow-light display, and the Mondavi Center's technical crew made it happen. What was originally planned as a one-week display will now run until July 12, the one-month anniversary of the shootings at the Pulse nightclub.

NEWS BRIEFS: Bernie Sanders Coming Here for Rally

Campus officials confirmed Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders will be here Wednesday night (June 1) for a campaign rally on Hutchison Field. The Sanders campaign is paying for all arrangements.

Officials said the field along La Rue Road will be fenced off, with entry gates and security screening set up at the northwest corner. The gates are tentatively set to open at 5 p.m.

The University Library has launched a visioning process, to continue through fall quarter, to reimagine the future of the Shields, Carlson Health Sciences, and Physical Sciences and Engineering libraries.

Through a yearlong, campuswide conversation with students, faculty and staff, the library will assess how its physical space, technology and services can best serve the ��ϲʿ��ͼ community and support student success in the 21st century. Opportunities to share ideas will include focus groups, town hall meetings, and surveys of faculty, students and staff.

Beloved former football coach Jim Sochor’s family asked for his memorial service to have a lively, festive atmosphere — like a football game! — and so it will be this Saturday (April 30) at Aggie Stadium. “A Tribute to Jim Sochor: His Life and Legacy” is free and open to the public, starting at 10 a.m. (a half-hour earlier than originally announced).

NEWS BRIEFS: Police Accountability Board to meet twice

The independent Police Accountability Board is trying something new with the scheduling of its public meeting for the spring quarter. Instead of meeting at night, the board will meet during the day, and, instead of having one meeting in Davis or Sacramento, the board will hold simultaneous meetings on both campuses.
