Every day is Principles of Community Day at �������ϲʿ����������ͼ, though we need not say it out loud. We know it’s there, this document that embodies the values about treating one another and how we want to be treated ourselves, with equity and justice.

Next week is Principles of Community Week at �������ϲʿ����������ͼ, the period set aside annually to shout it from the top of Mrak Hall to the Quad and Sacramento and beyond. And that we will do, with events from Monday through Friday, Feb. 24-28, culminating in the Disability Resource Fair at the end of the week.

This year marks the fifth anniversary of revisions agreed to by the community “to underscore the PoC’s standing and meaning as an aspirational statement,” and the 30th anniversary of the original adoption.

Thirty years of affirming the dignity inherent in all of us, 30 years of affirming the right of freedom of expression within our community, 30 years of confronting and rejecting all manifestations of discrimination, 30 years of recognizing that each of us has an obligation to the �������ϲʿ����������ͼ community of which we have chosen to be a part.

Here’s the schedule, in brief:

• Principles of Community Four Words Campaign and Luncheon — A staff networking event, a time to reflect on the document, and for each person to capture its essence and meaning — in four words. 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, multipurpose room, . Lunch provided, limited to 70 guests. Sponsored by the Staff Diversity Administrative Advisory Committee and the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
• Freedom of Expression in the Classroom — A faculty event facilitated by Kem Saichaie, associate director for learning and teaching support, Center for Educational Effectiveness; Mark Verbitsky, lecturer, Department of Political Science; and Vickie Gomez, director, campus community and engagement, Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, Meeting Room D, Student Community Center. • �������ϲʿ����������ͼ Code: Navigating PoC and Policy — Assessing the Principles of Community and policies about harassment, doxing and de-escalation. Dinner, dessert, blue books and Scantron answer sheets will be available for students. Upstander and Harassment Intervention arranged by the Cross Cultural Center. ‘Pop’ in to Sacramento campus

After that, more than a dozen pop-up events are planned around the campus, various times and locations, through the week. Listed activities include Trivia Fun: Jeopardy! Diversity and Inclusion Edition, Staff Appreciation, PoC Perspectives From Leadership, Nurses Panel, film screenings and Lunar New Year Celebration.
