Quick Summary

  • Amy Myers Jaffe attending World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
  • Jaffe presenting °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û×ßÊÆͼ research Friday on the future of oil demand.

Amy Myers Jaffe, executive director of energy and sustainability at the University of California, Davis, is at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Jan. 21-25, and is available to discuss oil demand and oil prices with media.

Jaffe serves as chair of the Global Agenda Council on the Future of Oil and Gas at the World Economic Forum. She will present °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û×ßÊÆͼ research at a session on Friday, Jan. 22, concerning future oil demand scenarios and dramatic shifts in expectations within the oil and gas industry.

The research was prepared by the Sustainable Transportation Energy Pathways, or STEPS, program within the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û×ßÊÆͼ Institute for Transportation Studies. It suggests that efficiency technologies in vehicles, changes in urban transportation patterns, and slower than expected economic growth in key Asian economies could bring about a temporary peaking of oil demand in transportation in the next decade or so.

Jaffe predicted the current collapse in oil prices in a recent paper published by °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û×ßÊÆͼ-ITS in 2012. She has a joint appointment at °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û×ßÊÆͼ with ITS and the Graduate School of Management. Jaffe is leading a research project at the STEPS program on the viability of alternative fuels in the U.S. freight system, as well as a project on long-term trends for oil demand.
