Last chance as SFMOMA closes Warhol; take a road trip

SFMOMA in San Francisco offers their last weekend to 鈥淢eet Andy鈥 in the exhibition

Explore the life of Warhol, from his instantly recognizable pop masterpieces to intimate drawings from his early years. Stretching across three floors of SFMOMA, and featuring a dozen works unique to SFMOMA, this once-in-a-lifetime exhibition reveals new complexities about the Warhol we think we know and introduces a Warhol for the 21st century. 

Can't make it during the day? Take advantage of this Saturday, Aug. 31. The exhibition closes completely Sept. 2.

This weekend is also the last chance for the Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art's 鈥渞oad trip鈥 featured in the Arts Blog earlier this week.

Chalk it up in Sacramento, and other events in Davis and beyond

  • Davis Jazz Night, Natsoulas Gallery, Friday Aug. 30, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
    • This event invites you to 鈥淪tart your weekend with two free sets of Big Band, Latin, and Swing jazz! Invite your friends and don't forget your dancing shoes!鈥 Live music provided by New Harmony Jazz Band.  More .
  • Chalk It Up! Festival, Fremont Park, Sacramento, Friday Aug. 31 to Monday Sept. 2, 10 a.m to 5 p.m. 
    • Artists will transform the sidewalks of Fremont Park into a canvas for their colorful chalk art during the 29th annual . Aspiring artists can bring their own chalk or purchase chalk at the event, and decorate designated areas. While wandering among the art, visitors can also enjoy live music and treats from food and drink vendors.

    • Go on a scavenger hunt to find all six pianos placed by In the Key of Davis. Cheerful painted pianos invite anyone to play them.

Upcoming: A Sneak Peek

  • Mexican film screening 鈥淟a Otra鈥, Crocker Art Museum, Thursday Sept. 5, 6:30 p.m. 
    • The Mexican film noir 鈥淟a Otra鈥 will be screened in Spanish with English subtitles. This film is the first in a series of five movies that will be screened on Thursdays this fall. Subsequent movies will feature indigenous voices and California history. Free for members, free with admission for nonmembers.
