Baroque, Citizen X, chorus, jazz, orchestra and more

Between now and the end of the quarter, the Department of Music presents its own ensembles and bands, and hosts a performance of Citizen X, a unique fusion of poetry, electronic music and jazz.

Thursday, March 7

Kurt Rohde’s Farewell Tour, Part 2 — The �������ϲʿ����������ͼ music professor’s multiyear Farewell Tour — Parts 1 through 6, modeled after Cher’s many farewell tours — commissions new works by the most gifted composers who Rohde feels are underrepresented and deserve a wider audience, while also broadening the repertoire for viola. Citizen X — An avant-garde collaboration of poet, vocalist and electronics performer Sadiq Bey, and guitarist/composer Jean-Paul Bourelly, a �������ϲʿ����������ͼ music lecturer, with guests David Boyce and Kevin Carnes. 7 p.m., Recital Hall, Ann E. Pitzer Center.

Wednesday, March 13

Concert and Campus bands — A program focused on pieces for concert band by female composers — Julie Giroux, Chen Yi, Judith Lang Zaimont and Erin Paton Pierce — as well as the blockbuster work Pictures at an Exhibition by Modesto Mussorgsky. 7 p.m., Jackson Hall, Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts.

Thursday, March 14

• Contemporary Improvisation Ensemble — Music 122 students (Kurt Rohde’s “Improv” class) present works of improvisation by composers such as Cage, Oliveros and Lewis, in addition to new work by students and Rohde. Shinkoskey Noon Concert, 12:05 p.m., Recital Hall, Ann E. Pitzer Center. Free.
